Mugger goes empty handed

Crime-police-tapeA mugger was left empty handed after attacking a woman in Popley on Friday, September 10.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 41-year-old woman was targetted  walking along the footpath between Popley Way and Shakespeare Road between 9.30am and 10am.

A man approached the woman on the footpath, which runs behind the old John Hunt school site. He made a grab for her bag, knocking her to the floor.

The woman managed to hold onto her bag and after a short struggle, the attacker ran off empty handed.

PC Ricky Davis, from the Basingstoke Targeted Patrol Team, said: “Although this incident happened in a secluded area, there may have been someone in the area who saw what happened, and I’d like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this robbery, or recognises the description, to get in touch.”

The man is described as white, 5ft 7ins and in his early 20s. He is of skinny build with a thin, pointy nose and stubbly chin. He was wearing a black tracksuit with silver stripes down the front, he was wearing a black beanie hat.
