Teens subjected to homophobic abuse in store

CCTVTwo teenagers were subjected to homophobic abuse in a Basingstoke shop.

Police investigating the incident have branded the attack “unacceptable”. CCTV footage has been released in a bid to trace the gang.

According to officers the abuse took place at t 3.10pm on February 12, when a 17-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man were in the electronics store CEX, in Wote Street.

Man charged with causing death of Odiham teen

crime-policemenPolice have charged a man with dangerous driving following the death of an Odiham teenager in September.

Henry Stangroom, 19, from Rye Common, Odiham, was charged in relation to the death of 19-year-old Jack Bland.

Mr Stangroom will appear at Aldershot Magistrates Court on March 15. Mr Bland, of London Road, Odiham, died at Basingstoke and North Hants Hospital on September 11 after being struck by a car in the early hours of the morning.

Woman in critical condition after M3 collision

crime-policemenPolice are appealing for witnesses following a collision on the northbound carriageway of the M3 between Winchester and Basingstoke on Saturday.

The accident happened shortly before 11.30am between junction 9 and 8 when the rear tyre of a silver Renault Megane suddenly deflated and the driver lost control.

The vehicle left the carriageway where it rolled several times coming to a rest on its wheels in a ditch.

Cigarettes stolen in Buckskin store raid

crime-policemenPolice have launched an appeal for information following an overnight raid on a Basingstoke store.

According to police the Co-op in Blackdown Close, Buckskin was broken into in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Officers were called after the gang tripped the shop's alarm system. When they arrived the front entrance had been smashed.

The burglars stole cigarettes, which at the time of going to press the value of was unknown, and had fled before the cops arrived.

MP Maria praises police for crime drop

Police_MM_outside_portraitBasingstoke MP Maria Miller has welcomed the latest police statistics that show a fall in crime across the borough.

The Government Minister for disabled people praised staff and officers for clamping down on town centre violence.

Latest figures found violent crime in the town centre overall has fallen by 17 per cent, assaults between 11pm and 3am have fallen 15 per cent, and violent crime between the same hours have fallen by 15 per cent.
