Paint thrown from bridge sparks police appeal

A teenage trio have been arrested and bailed after paint was thrown from a bridge onto the Basingstoke ring road.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident oat around 12.45pm on Tuesday, April 20. A quantity of yellow paint was thrown from a bridge between the Reading Road roundabout and Aldermaston Road roundabout.

Some of the paint landed on a BMW 1 Series travelling towards the A339. A 15-year-old from Farnborough, 17-year-old from Basingstoke and an 18-year-old from Basingstoke have been arrested and bailed.

PC Victoria Brewer, of the Whitchurch Targeted Patrol Team, said: “This was an extremely dangerous incident and fortunately nobody was injured. Throwing items from a bridge towards moving traffic is unbelievably stupid and could result in serious injury to people using the road below.

“We want to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw anything suspicious. We would also appeal to anyone who knows who was responsible to contact us as soon as possible so these people can be brought to justice.”

Anyone with information can contact PC Brewer at Whitchurch police station on 101 or by calling the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
