A home in the Winklebury Centre was the target of a petrol bomb attack on Tuesday, March 8.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses to the attack, which occurred between 10.45pm and 11.15pm.
The police said a man was at his home in the centre when he heard a loud bang outside his flat.
Firefighters were dispatched to the scene where they discovered that the makeshift petrol bomb had been lobbed at the first floor window. No one was injured.
Detective Constable Ben Lee, from Basingstoke CID, said: “Fortunately, the bomb only managed to crack the window pane and not smash it, which meant the explosion was outside the flat. If it had gone inside it could have had very serious consequences.
“Although there were not many people around when this happened, the explosion would have been very noisy and certainly would have drawn people’s attention. The fire brigade also attended and a large number of residents were outside.”
A 20-year-old man from Basingstoke has been arrested and bailed in connection with this incident.
Anyone with any further information should contact Det Con Lee at Basingstoke police station on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
