Detectives in Basingstoke are appealing for witnesses and information following the incident in Hamilton Close on Monday.

Around 9pm, police were called to  removal  company Robinsons International’s depot following reports that someone was trying to steal a lorry.

When officers arrived, the offenders drove out of the depot in a black Peugeot 405 and collided with a marked police car, which also caused two other marked police vehicles to crash.

The offenders then drove off.

PC Wendy Austin from Basingstoke CID said: “This incident happened very quickly and has resulted in damage to three police cars and the lorry.

“Fortunately, nothing was stolen and nobody was injured, but we’d like to hear from anyone who saw the Peugeot 405 in the area that night or has any information about who was responsible for this attempted theft.”

If you have information about the incident, call PC Austin at Basingstoke police station on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
