Police swoop to close drugs den

Members of the public helped shut down a cannabis factory in Basingstoke, police have said.

Officers swooped on a property in Blunden Close on Wednesday, March 10 after a top off from a resident. More than 500 cannabis plants were found in the property after officers executed a search warrant at the address.

Detective Sergeant Tim Chappell, of the Basingstoke Priority Crime Unit, said: “A considerable quantity of cannabis was sized following the warrant meaning these drugs will now never reach our streets. We were able to find this address after we were given information by a member of the public and we would remind residents to contact us if they suspect a neighbouring property is involved in drug use or supply.

“Things to look out for could be blackened windows or curtains permanently drawn, regular visitors to the property at certain times of the day or suspicious people hanging around outside the property. Ultimately if you witness any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood please contact us as soon as possible.”

Anyone with information about this incident or any similar properties can contact Basingstoke police station on 101 or by calling the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
