Thug attack in Popley

Crime-police-tapeAn unprovoked attack in Popley on Monday August 16 has led police to appeal for witnesses to come forward with information.

A 53-year-old woman was left with injuries to her arm and legs after a man attacked her from behind.

At 9.50pm the woman was cycling home along Shakespeare Road, near to Browning Close when she stopped to answer a telephone call.

A man then came up behind her and pushed her to ground. Nothing was said to the woman and nothing was taken.

PC Stephen Rogerson, from the Basingstoke Scheduling Unit, said: “This was a completely unprovoked and malicious attack on a woman going about her business.

“Although the woman doesn't recall anyone else being in the area when it happened, we would like to hear from anyone who may have seen the assault, or knows who is responsible."

The man is described as white, between 5ft 1ins and 5ft 2ins, medium build. He was wearing a light grey hooded top and light blue jeans.

PC Rogerson added: We would also like to remind people to be aware of their surroundings when out and about.”

Anyone with any information should contact PC Rogerson at Basingstoke police station on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
