Two people seriously hurt in thug attack

crime-policemenThugs carried out a brutal attack on a man and a woman walking home after a night out on Sunday.

Hampshire detectives are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened on Old Worting Road, Basingstoke.

Police said that the 63-year-old man and 50-year-old woman had left The Spruce pub shortly after 10pm when they were approached by two men, who punched them both in face. The man fell to the ground where he was repeatedly kicked.

The pair were left badly injured. The man had cuts and bruising to his eyes, a fractured eye socket and two broken ribs.

The woman received a nasty cut to her head, a fractured nose and fractures to both eye sockets.

Their attackers, who are both white and thought to be in their 20s, then took the woman’s cream Next handbag and ran off along Old Worting Road.

The first attacker was 6ft tall, of large build and wore a white hooded top and white trainers.

The second was about 5ft 11ins tall, has medium length dark hair and was wearing dark clothing.

Detective Constable Ben Lee, sad: “This was a vicious attack on two people who were walking home following an evening out.

“As a result, they have sustained severe injuries which required medical treatment.
