Woman robbed of handbag in town centre assault

A woman was robbed of her handbag during an assault in the town earlier this month.Between 12.15am and 12.30am a 21-year-old woman was walking home along a footpath adjacent to Churchill Way West.She was then approached by someone who grabbed her and punched her in the face – knocking her to the floor.

The attacker took her handbag and ran off towards the Victory roundabout.

The victim suffered bruising and swelling to her eye following the incident.

The attacker is described as 20 to 30 years old, around 6ft tall wearing a white hooded top with the hood up and black trousers.PC Aiden Blackwell, of the Basingstoke Targeted Team, said: “This was a nasty attack against a woman walking home on her own.“Although the area would have been quiet there may have been other people around making their way home from the town centre.

“If you were in the area at the time and saw anything suspicious, please contact us as soon as possible.“We would remind everyone to plan their journey home from a night out in the town centre and always be vigilant and report anything suspicious to police.”
