Woman suffers knife wounds after town attack

A woman suffered knife wounds following an assault in the town earlier this month.

Police have charged trio in connection with the incident and appealed for witnesses. The assault occurred at around 1am on Saturday, May 1 when a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were walking home along Winchester Road.

As the couple walked past a group of eight men and women they had abuse shouted at them before being attacked. The group then ran off but met the woman walking along Hamelyn Road shortly afterwards and she was assaulted again by someone in the group. The woman suffered injuries after being slashed with a knife and the man suffered cuts and cruises are being kicked and punched.

Detective Constable Drew Wright, of Basingstoke CID, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a couple who were walking home from a night out. It resulted in nasty injuries to the victims that required hospital treatment. We want to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw the incident happening. If you have any information please contact us as soon as possible.”

The couple were taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hampshire Hospital for treatment.

Five people have been arrested and bailed in connection with the incident while three people have been charged.

Twenty-year-old Damien Dyer, of South Road, Kingsclere is charged with affray and section 18 attempt wounding with intent. Victoria Tribe, 21, of Hamelyn Road, Basingstoke, is charged with affray and section 18 wounding with intent while Ashley Tribe, 19, of South Road, Kingsclere is charged with affray and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

All three appeared at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Monday and will next appear at Winchester Crown Court on Friday, August 27.
