Basingstoke's best Lollipop man revealed

Basingstoke’s best ‘lollipop’ person has been named this week.

Tony Evans, who marshals St Mary’s Church of England Junior School in Old Basing, scooped the title and narrowly missed out on taking top honours in the county. He was nominated by head teacher Kerry Ramsay on behalf of staff and children at the school.

Thousands more kids sign up to healthy school meals

More than 300,000 more healthy school meals are being served across the Hampshire’s schools thanks to a county council initiative.

The figures represent an increase of 5.5% on last year, with 330 primary and special schools, plus 30 secondary schools, being serviced by the county council’s catering service.

School celebrates 'topping out'

A Basingstoke school marked a significant milestone in the construction of a new sports hall with a ‘topping out’ ceremony last month.

The roof on the new facility at Bishop Challoner School was competed on Friday, May 28.

The project has been handled by Leadbitter Group, who joined pupils and teachers at the event.

Pupils told of building site dangers

Pupils at Marnel Junior School were given a lesson in playing safe thanks to housing developer Taylor Wimpey.

A group of more than 200 youngsters were taught about the dangers of playing on or around building sites by Kim Jacob, from the housebuilder's nearby Everest Park developments.

Falling scaffolding, bricks, pipes, sharp metal and moving vehicles have all been highlighted as potential dangers to curious youngsters on the Popley site.

Testbourne scoops film gong

A Whitchurch School will represent the UK in a film competition after picking up domestic honours this month.

Pupils from Testbourne Community School won the 2010 Kid Witness News UK Grand Prix – which challenges youngsters to create a short film. The group of ten made a four-minute film titled: ‘Dansez What You Can’t Sez’ – about the use of dance as a method of communication.
