The winner of the 2009 Hampshire County Council Illustrated Book Award has been announced this week.
Alison Lewis, Jill Walkinton and Deborah Allwright picked up the gong for their book ‘Don’t Read this Book’ – a tale of the King of Storyland, who gallops through the pages of the book looking for his own story.
Organised by county bosses, the award is given to an outstanding picture book for readers aged nine and ten by primary schools in Hampshire.
Hampshire county council’s executive member for culture, Cllr Margaret Snauth-Tempia, said: “The Hampshire Illustrated Book Award aims to promote the enjoyment of reading and get young students excited by the genre of picture books.
“The award really helps to develop children’s visual literacy skills and critical ability, but above all, its great fun!”
