The Bramley Community Responders group received a donation of £500 to purchase a second medical kitbag.
The donation was made by The Atomic Weapons Establishment Community Committee to provide emergency equipment including masks, airways, an oxygen tank and bandages.
The responders scheme dispatches locally-based, medically trained volunteers to attend incidents before emergency services are able to get there.
Once a call is put through to 999, the operator puts a call through to a duty responder with location and details of the incident.
The scheme serves mainly Bramley and Sherfield-on-Loddon, though some incidents are called out to Tadley or Chineham.
Bramley coordinator, David Brand, 21, “Having the second kit bag means we can be more flexible in our response, with responders attending more than one incident at a time.”
Community responders attend a two-day training course which is assessed at the end. They are required to re-qualify every six months with South Central Ambulance Service.
David said: “I originally started the scheme to help people, being a community responder means there is a genuine opportunity to help save lives.”
