Pupils in Basingstoke helped the county achieve record Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) results.
Results released by the Department for Education on Tuesday August 3 show Hampshire pupils posted the highest ever scores in the Key Stage 2 tests.
Eleven-year-old pupils sitting the national year 6 tests placed Hampshire above national average.
Girls achieved a clean sweep over boys scoring higher in English, reading, writing. Boys could only reach an equal footing in maths.
Councillor David Kirk, Hampshire County's Executive Member for Children’s Services, said: “Congratulations to staff and pupils for these results, which remain consistently good. Pupils and staff have worked very hard during the school year.
The numbers looked at SATs results of 12,200 pupils across Hampshire, crunching the scores of 6,300 boys and 5,900 girls.
The percentage of pupils scoring level 5 in English and maths, which means they are working at a higher level than expected for their age, was two per cent higher than the national average.
Girls were considerably more successful than boys in English, with 43 per cent reaching level 5, compared to the boys 28 per cent.
Boys were only higher in maths, with 39 per cent reaching level 5 compared to 35 per cent achieved by the girls.
Pupils were also placed above national average in reaching level 4, which is considered the normal level of achievement.
At this level girls were also able to beat boys across the board in reading, writing and English, but boys saved face in maths, with both achieving 82 per cent.
“As important as test results are for measuring a child’s success, it is also important to take into account the progress children make while at school,” said Cllr Kirk.
“To this end the County Council remains committed to raising standards in all our schools to ensure that all pupils are encouraged to fulfil their potential, enjoy their time in school and be well prepared for their future learning in the county’s secondary schools and beyond.”
This years SATs tests were taken by pupils at the end of year 6 across a week from Monday May 11 to Friday May 15. The tests show how pupils have fared across Key Stage 2 which is taught to primary school students from the age of seven through to 11.
