A Whitchurch School will represent the UK in a film competition after picking up domestic honours this month.
Pupils from Testbourne Community School won the 2010 Kid Witness News UK Grand Prix – which challenges youngsters to create a short film. The group of ten made a four-minute film titled: ‘Dansez What You Can’t Sez’ – about the use of dance as a method of communication.
They will now go to the European Awards ceremony in Weisbaden, Germany at the end of the month and will join national winners from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Poland. This is the second time Testbourne have scooped the honour having tasted success back n 2008 before spending a week in Japan for the Global Awards – and the same prize is up for grabs this time around.
Coordinatior Pete Hallman commented: “The film is a perfect mixture of technical competence and creativity. Panasonic have given the team top quality equipment and training with industry professionals. The pupils have responded by producing a broadcast quality film to be proud of.
Miss Hilary Jackson, Headteacher at Testbourne, commented: “I am very proud indeed of all our 2010 Kid Witness News Team. This is the third year we have been involved in the competition and this year has been particularly memorable because our students have worked together with those from Icknield School and captured the precious partnership between our two schools.
“They have gained so much in the process – technical knowledge, team-working, communication and social skills – as well as quite a lot about life. I had a feeling when I first saw the film that they had produced something special and I am delighted their creativity and hard work have been recognised at national level.”
