Funds have been made available to help tackle climate change.
Hampshire county council has allocated £20,000 to match funds and grants provided by local district and borough authorities in their eco-war throughout 2010. The Greening Campaign hopes to motivate whole communities to work together to cut energy consumption, save money and CO2.
Advice and information is also available and may include public meetings, film shows, displays and more. Cutting your carbon footprint can range from using low energy lightbulbs to walking short journeys instead of using the car, according to charity bosses. The Greening Campaign, originally launched in Hampshire, now works across the South East and spread as far as Northumberland.
Council Mel Kendal, Executive Member for Environment, said: “It’s a priority for us all to reduce our contribution to climate change. This grant gives residents the opportunity to find out how they can join together and take action against a major threat to our environment.
“The Government’s target for an 80per cent reduction in carbon emissions by 2050 will require us all to act together and take part in the challenge. I encourage you to find out more about the Greening Campaign.”
Terena Plowright, from the Greening Campaign, said: “It is fantastic to have support from Hampshire county council; this gives huge strength to the campaign and gives us the chance to make use of their expertise. We have already had lots of enquiries from communities in Hampshire who want to begin to make a difference.”
