Community group donated water butt for new garden

Water-Butt-holes-PicGreen-fingered Buckskin residents have been given a helping hand to become more water efficient by South East Water.

The utilities company has donated a water butt to be used at the Buckskin Triangle garden, at the Ridgeway Centre.  Rainwater will be collected and used by the centre to water plants, and teach the local community about water efficiency.

Ray Dobing, of the Heart of Buckskin Community planning group, which is based at The Ridgeway Centre, said: “This water butt will make a huge difference to the area.

“In the past we have been using tap water to water the plants which are around the centre. Now we have this water butt we’ll be able to plant far more, as well as use it to help teach the local community about the importance of water conservation.  I am delighted South East Water was able to make this donation.”

Lee Dance, South East Water’s head of water resources and environmental, said: “It was a pleasure to donate the water butt to the planning group.  It is important that communities, young and old learn, about how they can conserve water, not only in the home, but in the garden as well.  I hope this donation will go some way to achieving that.

“Plants much prefer rainwater to tap water so by storing it in a water butt the community will not only benefit the environment, they should see the benefit in their plants too.”
