Graffiti Busting Week returns to Hart in September

Graffiti-Week-PicHart residents are being encouraged to report incidents of graffiti in the area ahead of the eighth Graffiti Busting Week.

The bi-annual event runs from September 19 to 23 across the district.  The Safer Hart Partnership will be carrying out a blitz on graffiti throughout the area, and around 100 pieces have already been earmarked for removal by Hart District Council and a professional contractor.

During the week, graffiti will also be removed free of charge from private property, providing the landowner has given their permission.  Hart’s cabinet member for community safety, Councillor Nippy Singh, said: “Graffiti is a blight on our community and by running these weeks we are reminding those who commit these acts of vandalism that it will not be tolerated.”

Organisers hope removing the graffiti will reduce the fear of crime in communities across the district, and encourage people to take pride in where they live and work.  Despite the popularity of street artists like Banksy, graffiti remains illegal and if caught offenders are dealt with under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003.
