September means the launch of the annual work party schedule with all the details of tasks to be carried out by the conservation groups working on council owned land.
There are 12 different groups working on several projects both in the town and in rural areas. Activities include tree planting, pond management, litter picking and coppicing.
Getting involved in wildlife conservation activities is a great way to learn about nature and to learn new skills. It is also fun, good exercise and a fantastic way to meet people.
Each group is very friendly and would welcome you to any of their work parties. Don't worry, you do not need any previous experience. Each work party is led by an experienced leader who will explain how to carry out the task safely and efficiently. Tools and protective equipment such as gloves and hard hats will be provided, so all you need to do is wear sturdy shoes and old clothing suitable for the task and weather.
Individuals, families or groups of all ages and all abilities are welcome. Children up to the age of 14 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or guardian and a parental consent form is necessary for children between the ages of 15 and 18 before they can attend on their own.
If you are not able to help with physical tasks then perhaps you would consider helping with administrational or financial tasks, if you think you could help in this way then do get in touch.
