Charity hopes to double volunteers

A borough group is hoping to double its number of volunteers after securing additional funding this year.

Basingstoke and District Cats Protection received £23,000 in 2009 through fundraising and donations while a further £16,500 in wills the year before.

As a result a free neutering campaign was launched allowing the charity to work at maximum capacity.

Andrea Shepherd, founding member, commented: “The more cats we help the more cats we get.

“As the charity is looking for all types of volunteers to help with abandoned and rescued cats, particularly indoor fosterers who can offer to house pregnant cats and their kittens and outdoor fosterers who can house in their garden pens for cats – all expenses are paid by the charity.

“When the charity was first set up in 1991 we were just a handful of Tadley-based volunteers but we have been growing at a staggering rate.”

To learn more about the charity organisers are appealing for residents to come along to their Spring Fair, held at The Ambrose Allen Centre from 1.30pm to 3.30pm on Saturday, March 13.
