More than 500 women have signed up for St Michael's Hospice's annual Midnight Walk in Basingstoke on Saturday, September 3.
The hospice is still looking for more ladies to take part in the fundraising stroll, and has introduced a new six-mile route so more people can take part. The walk is open to women of all ages and fitness levels, with the two routes - including the original 11-mile walk - taking participants through different parts of the town from the starting line in Festival Place shopping centre.
Professional marshals from MJ Events will be on hand to make sure walkers stay safe and travelling in the right direction. “This is the third year that we are running Midnight Walk, over the last two years walkers have helped raise over £200,000 for their local hospice which is just amazing.
"There has been so much great feedback on the event and many people wanting to take part that we are hoping to have 1,000 ladies this year and raise even more vital funds for St Michael’s. I would urge anyone who is interested in taking part to sign up as it is such a fun event and a fantastic atmosphere on the night,” said Pat Darty, events manager at St Michael’s Hospice.
Among the walkers will be Monika Balstone, who took part in last year's walk and has registered to walk again this year. She said: “My friend and I have taken part every year, it’s a fun night and a great spectacle with all the flashing bunny ears in the dark. With all the ladies the camaraderie is inspiring and I would recommend it to all local ladies. It’s for a great local cause, a great way to get fit and there was a great breakfast afterwards.”
Sainsbury's will be donating refreshments along the route, while all finishers will get a walker's breakfast of bacon or sausage rolls and croissants, which have been donated the the Rotary Club, and walkers will also take home a goodie bag courtesy of the Sports Centre.
Entry costs £16 for adults, and £8 for teens aged between 13 and 18. People hoping to register on the night can do so for £20 for adults, and £10 for teens. For more information, visit www.stmichaelshospice.org.uk
