Midnight Walk announced in Basingstoke

A Basingstoke charity hopes more than 2,000 ladies will take to the borough’s streets for a Midnight Walk later this year.

St Michaels Hospice, based in Aldermaston Road, is hosting the event on Saturday, September 4 after the success of last year’s trek. In 2009, more than 1,200 ladies helped raise £125,000 for the hospice by walking 11miles through the boundaries of Basingstoke. The walk is for women only and provides a great opportunity for girls together and have fun, charity bosses say.

Pat Darty, events coordinator at St Michael’s, said: “This is the second year that we are running Midnight Walk and we were delighted with the response in 2009 as 1,100 walkers helped to raise £125,000 for their local hospice – which was just amazing. There has been so much great feedback on the event and many people wanting to take part that we are hoping to have 2,000 ladies this year and raise an even larger sum for St Michael’s. I would urge anyone who is interested in taking part to sign up as it is such a fun event and a fantastic atmosphere on the night. The money raised from the event will go towards funding vital new services such as Hospice at Home which has annual running costs of over £200,000.”

More than 300 walkers have already signed up to take part but spaces are limited, so keen walkers are encouraged to book their space as soon as possible. The Midnight Walk costs £15 to enter for adults and £7.50 for children aged between 13 and 18 which includes a free t shirt and celebration breakfast on return.
