Whether they were winging it or had their beaks in front, entrants to this year's Great Overton Duck Race went quackers on Bank Holiday Monday.
Now in its seventh year, the fundraising event saw hundreds of people descend on the banks of the River Test to bet on and cheer hundreds of plastic ducks as they bobbed their way along the water. Eight races of 150 ducks battled it out to make it to the grand final, with a grand prize of £100 on offer to the overall winner.
Racegoers also had the chance to bring their own bath time buddy to race, as well as get their face painted, listened to duck-related music and buy refreshments and gifts from a variety of stalls. Proceeds from the event at Flashetts, in Station Road, went towards St Mary's Hall, on Overton High Street.
Organiser Mark Winter told the Observer the event had raised more than £11,500 for the hall over the years, and it was hoped this year's races would net around £2,000. The money will be used to install a projector to show films in the hall.
Mr Winter said: "Originally it was run as a one-off, but it was so successful people kept coming back asking if we were going to do it again. People love it, and it's a great fundraiser for the hall. This year for the first time we allowed people to enter online and people from as far away as America bought tickets."
