Turn Back The Clock with Joyce Grenfell

Turn-Back-the-Clock-Pic1Adapted and performed by Cheryl Knight, this comic monologue is being shown in honour of Joyce Grenfell’s centenary year and is sprinkled with some of her more delicate and poignant pieces.

The queen of the droll speech, Joyce made her first stage appearance in 1939, before entertaining troops during World War II on tour to Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

After the war she continued to star in revues working with Noel Coward and Max Adrian.  Joyce wrote monologues, songs and poems, working alongside Richard Addinsell for the musical accompaniment to her songs.  She continued to perform until the late 1960s.

Turn Back The Clock creator Cheryl Knight's previous work includes roles in the West End production of the musical Buddy, the tour of Spend, Spend, Spend with Barbara Dickson, James Roose Evans' acclaimed production of Pericles and numerous television commercials.

Having spent the past few years running the shoe department at the Royal Opera House, this marks her return to the stage.  At the pianoforte is Alice Farnham who appeared last at Anvil Arts when she conducted Roundabout Basingstoke.

This gem of nostalgia from the golden age of revue is suitable for all ages.  For more information or tickets, visit www.anvilarts.org.uk or call 01256 844244.
