Two top nurses from Basingstoke hospital have been chosen to join an elite course designed to train up the next generation of leaders shaping NHS healthcare.
Following a lengthy series of tests and interviews, Hampshire Hospital’s NHS Foundation Trust’s clinical services lead Julie McPherson, and paediatric nurse Lorraine Major, were selected for the Clinical Leadership Fellowship Programme, run by the NHS National Leadership Council.
The pair join 58 other health professionals, chosen from a shortlist of 300, working towards a post graduate certificate in leadership and service improvement.
Lorraine, from Basingstoke, said the course would help her improve services in Basingstoke hospital.
“One of my main aims is to improve communication between staff groups,” she said. “Good communication is absolutely key to ensuring we deliver excellent patient care and functions well, as a team.”
Julie McPherson said she was looking forward to putting theory into practice. She said: “This programme will help me enhance my knowledge and skills and I am really looking forward to putting into practice all the things I have learnt.”
