Dr Hilary opens new Healthcare Centre

Basingstoke’s new ‘one stop shop’ for medical services was officially opened this week.

Celebrity GP Doctor Hilary Jones, most recently seen gracing our television screens on Dancing on Ice, cut the red tape at a special ceremony on Thursday. Having been practicising in the town since 1982, Dr Hilary spoke of his pleasure at opening the new centre.

Basingstoke hospice receives funding boost

A Basingstoke hospice has received more then £250,000 from Government for a refurbishment of its in-patient unit.

St Michael's Hospice, based in Aldermaston Road, received a share of £40million Department of Health grant. The news was announced by Care Services Minister Phil Hope last week and six hospices across the South Central region have earned their share. St Michael's was given £281,960.

MP supports nurses issues

MP James Arbuthnot has given his support to a campaign aimed at highlighting the key issues for the nursing community ahead of this summer’s general election.

Hospital in Norovirus warning

Basingstoke hospital has urged anyone who has experienced symptoms and diarrhoea or vomiting in the last 48 hours not to visit after being affected by Norovirus.

Visiting hours have been restricted to one hour in the evening, from 6.30pm to 7.30pm in a bid to keep the virus at bay. Under 12s and older people are advised not to visit at all.

Naomi House given funding boost

Naomi House children’s hospice has been awarded a grant by Hampshire county council.

The charity, based in Sutton Scotney, lost over £5millin of its assets in the Icelandic banking collapse but has earned £3,000 from county bosses to help towards the cost of a sensory unit in jacksplace, a new building for life limited youngsters.

More than 500 children have been helped after the hospice launched in 1997.
