A national campaign fighting STI's in the over 50's is being supported by Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust.
Sexual Health Week, which started on Monday, September 13 and runs through to Sunday, September 19, aims to increase the awareness of STI's in older patients.
The hospital stresses that STI's can affect anyone of any age having unprotected sex.
Hospital spokesperson, Gina Hanafin, said: “If you are having unprotected sex, an STI will find you just as attractive whatever your age.
“More information on the subject of safer sex needs to be communicated to those people that have been involved in long term relationships, and are now in the position where they are thinking about or having sex with new partners.
“The same message needs to be absorbed by those who have had the menopause and pregnancy is no longer at the forefront of concern.”
Patients can get an appointment at the sexual health clinic with 48 hours at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, or visit the walk-in clinic on Tuesday from 9.30am to 12 midday for men and 1.30pm to 4.30pm for women.
Steve Day, Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital sexual health clinic manager, said: “This is an issue that has become extremely important. The number of STIs in people aged over 50 has increased over recent years. It is essential that safe sex messages are available to everyone at any age.”
