Roads disruption avoided thanks to quick thinking council

More than 300 days worth of disruptions on Hampshire’s roads have been avoided, the county council has claimed. Gas works and structural improvements cause delays and misery each year but thanks to good management this has been largely avoided. This has been achieved through working closely with utility companies and service contractors to ensure work schedules can be carried out at the same time.

Pothole misery will be dealt with, says council

Hampshire will get its share of £100million to spend on the ‘colossal’ task of improving the county’s roads.

Operation Restore and Resillience has been by the county council launched as part of a long-term investment to improve the strength and condition of Hampshire’s road network. Last winter’s arctic blast wreaked havoc on the county’s streets and highways, with potholes littering roads and causing misery for many.

Basingstoke’s Emily Wilson is training for a week-long cycle around France's battle sites to support her fiancé and his fellow RAF servicemen in Afghanistan.

Bike safety campaign launched in borough

A new initiative to combat road accidents involved motorbikes has been launched in Basingstoke.

The Get On campaign, headed by THINK! Aims to encourage borough drivers to try out being a biker in the hope they will watch out for motorcyclists on the road in the future. Motorbikes are only around one per cent of traffic yet account for 19per cent of road deaths. Tadley teen dies after collision

A Tadley teenager has died following a crash near Basingstoke earlier this month.

The incident occurred at around 11.15pm on Monday, March 22 when a blue Renault Clio was involved in a collision outside The Broomsquire Hotel in Silchester Road, Tadley.

The 18-year-old’s vehicle struck a parked car and a tree before coming to rest on its roof outside the hotel. The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, where he later died.
