The regeneration of Basing View took another step this week with the opening of a new pedestrian footpath.
The borough’s premier business venue now has improved access to the train station and town centre. It is the first in a series of public improvements ahead of a multi-million-pound scheme initiated by Basingstoke and Deane borough council. At the end of this month, council members are expected to agree to the masterplan for Basing View, as reported by the Observer.
The regeneration of Basing View will gather pace throughout the year with steps to improve the image of the business park. The demolition of two, ten story office blocks will begin in April.
Cabinet Member for Finance and Property, Cllr James Lewin, said: “The council recognises the need to demonstrate its commitment to regeneration by undertaking up-front investment to improve the area. Such improvements will help persuade potential developers to invest in the facilities envisaged by the masterplan, such as hotels, restaurants and modern high quality office accommodation.
“The footpath is just the very first small step. More change will take place on the ground throughout 2010 to prepare the area for revelopment.”
