Does Basingstoke have the county’s best ‘lollipop’ person?

That’s the question on the mind of Hampshire bosses as they prepare to crown the 2010 School Crossing Patrol of the Year. There are more than 250 school crossing patrols across the county and schools are being asked to say why theirs is the best in Hampshire.

Cllr Mel Kendal, Executive Member for Environment, said: “This is a great opportunity to show how much your school crossing patrol is appreciated and to recognise their dedication throughout the school year. They are valued members of the community and do a fantastic job in helping to ensure school children can cross the road safely to get to school.”

Nominations can be obtained by calling 01962 846100 or www.hants.gov.uk/scp_nomination_form.pdf.

The closing date for nominations is Friday, May 21.
