Bison claim third spot with home win

Basingstoke Bison moved up to third in the league with a home win over Slough Jets on Saturday night.

Last week’s disappointing defeat at ‘fortress’ Planet Ice has proved a mere blip for Steve Moria’s men, who recaptured their form with a terrific win. Mindy Kieras opened the scoring before Ondrej Lauko and Tony Redmond pulled the Herd further ahead.

Baz Emersic did pull one back for the visitors but Bison would have the final say, as Tom Long netted the final goal of the game to seal a 4-1 win for the Bison.

The Bison returned to home action on Sunday night as they hosted high-flying Milton Keynes Lightning. Despite their heroics 24 hours earlier, it was the visitors who took the points with a tight 3-1 reverse.

The Bison had opened the scoring in less than ten seconds through Ollie Bronnimann but Lightning were soon level courtesy of Adam Carr. The second period passed without a single goal as the two hardworking sides cancelled each other out.

But just 30 seconds into the final period Lightning pulled ahead as Andrea Smulter found the back of the net. And the result was made safe by Nick Pool to cap a disappointing night for Bison.
