The Bison ice hockey team enjoyed a successful weekend with two wins over derby rivals the Guildford Flames, winning 4-3 on both nights.
On Saturday, the Herd travelled to Guildford to face off in the first of their two pre-season games.
The first period created few goal-scoring opportunities for either team as they settled into their game play.
The first goal of the game came within three minutes after the break when the Herd's Ollie Bronnimann slotted away the puck for a 1-0 lead.
Player and Coach Steve Moria extended the lead eight seconds later.
The Flames held on and their new import, Curtis Huppe, found the back of the net shortly after to make it 2-1.
The Bison continued their attacking game and were rewarded, with Moria getting his second of the night, before newly-acquired Czech import Marek Dubec made it 4-1 before the buzzer.
A more aggressive and attacking Flames side were present for the third period and they were able to halve the deficit in the third minute when ex-Bison forward Greg Chambers fired home a Huppe pass.
Two minutes from the end, the Flames took advantage of the extra man and reduced the lead to one goal when Rick Plant found the way past Dean Skinns with 50 seconds to go.
But the Bison held on to give them the first win of the weekend.
On Sunday night, the Flames travelled to the Basingstoke Arena. It was the home side that got on the score shee first when Liam Chong fired home.
The Flames quickly found the equaliser through a Nathan Rempel strike.
In the second period, the Herd continued their strong form and took the lead again within 11 minutes when Czech Marcel Petran found the net.
In the third period, Petran got his second of the night. The Flames looked to pull the game back within their control and made it 3-2 when David Longstaff fired home with nine minutes left.
The Bison restored their two-goal lead when Dubec stole the puck on the blue line, skated clear and slotted the puck past Mark Lee in the Flames' net to make it 4-2.
The Flame's finished the scoring when Matt Towe bear Skinns to put the game 4-3 with only three seconds remaining on the clock.
Next week, the Herd face off against the Bracknell Bees at home on Saturday before travelling north to face last year's league champions, the Manchester Phoenix, on Sunday.
