Sunday, October 23 - MK Lightning 4 : Basingstoke Bison 1
Basingstoke Bison suffered two defeats on the trot to league leaders MK Lightning.
The double header means that the Herd have suffered three losses in three games and conceded 12 goals and scored four.
Bison slump to eighth in the English Premier league with three wins on the board, but six losses since their campaign started last month.
At home on Saturday, a blistering performance from MK netminder Alex Mettam ensured Bison were unable to work their way onto the scoresheet.
The only goal of the game came in the first period after a mix-up between two Bison players at the red line saw Lightning’s Leigh Jamieson skate in alone on netmider Matt Colclough to score.
A minute later, Bison had netted the puck only to be denied by the referee, who decided that the goal had been knocked out of place before Bison scored, and waved the goal off.
Keeper Colclough helped keep the scoreline down in the second period after denying Blaz Emersic in a two-on-one break, and Lightning captain Adam Carr a minute later. Shortly after, Marcel Petran forced a good save from Alex Mettam before tempers started to fray. Bison Marec Dubec and Adam Carr were binned and were joined a minute later by Marcel Petran and Michael Wales after a scuffle.
In the third period, good netminding from Colclough and Mettam kept the score locked at 1-0 going into the final minutes of the game.
In a last ditch attempt to find the equaliser, Bison called a time out with 55 seconds remaining and pulled Colclough for the extra attacker, but were unable to force an equaliser.
Bison were unable to revenge the loss and fell 1-4 away at Milton Keynes on Sunday.
Matt Towalski opened the scoring for the Lightning and Leigh Jamieson doubled the tally before the end of the first period.
Carr added a third goal in the second period before Steve Moria opened the Bison’s account with strong play from Dubec and Ollie Bronnimann.
The Lightning maintained the upper hand throughout the third period and in the final minutes of the game the Bison ditched Colclough for an extra skater. But the empty net gave Jamieson and easy second goal, wrapping up the scoring.
