Easter to forget for Town

Basingstoke Town managed just a point from their two Easter fixtures as the season seems to be fizzling out for Frank Gray’s side.

Having avoided relegation last season the Dragons breathed fire at the start of the season and looked like play-off contenders. But a dour winless run at the Camrose has seen Town slip down the table.

Town end Camrose drought

Basingstoke Town finally ended their five-month winless streak on home soil with a 1-0 win over play-off hopefuls Bath City.

Frank Gray’s side have looked better at home in recent weeks and were unlucky to lose at The Camrose four days earlier but managed to turn a performance into points with a solid display on Saturday.

Former Nigerian international Benedict Akewbu, on as a sub, was instrumental in the winner, which was grabbed by Josh Webb.

Basingstoke Town were beaten 4-2 by Woking despite a spirited performance at Kingfield.

Sean Hankin and Miles Mitchell-Coop were absent with a broken hand and injured knee respectively and Ross Kitteridge continued in goal.

Goalkeeper Ross Kitteridge kept his place in goal as regular stopper Richard Barnard remained sidelines...

Town 0-1 Eastleigh

basingstoke-FCThe bizarre workings of this season’s fixtures saw Town along with three other teams sit out Saturday, leaving them a week to reflect on the fourth home defeat in a row before runaway leaders Newport County arrived in town.

Fans had been working all day on the pitch under the guidance of the groundsman, following the appalling weather over the weekend and were rewarded for their efforts when the match referee arrived late afternoon and declared that the match would go ahead.
But the...
