Basingstoke Town started with the same 11 for the fourth game in a row for Monday night's game at Boreham Wood but could only managed the result they hadn't yet achieved this season, drawing 1-1.
Town took to the field in the home side's away strip after their kit got delayed on the M3 and nearly created the first opportunity when Wes Daly played a clever ball through to David Pratt. The midfielder's touch deserted him, however, and Pelly Ruddock was able to nip in and steal the ball away.
Jay Gasson then picked up the first booking off the evening for a foul on Ruddock as he tried to burst into the penalty area. There was little goalmouth action until the 28th minute when Shaun McAuley's cross ended up at the feet of Pratt, who played in striker Tim Sills. The Town forward sent in a dipping shot but Wood 'keeper Elvijs Putnins was equal to the task and made a decent save.
At the other end Ross Adams slipped at an inopportune moment, allowing striker Inih Effiong the room to let fly but his shot was weak and didn't trouble Ashley Bayes in the Town goal. All square at the break, Town had the best of the early chances in the second half. McAuley tried his luck from distance and almost got lucky when a deflection took it narrowly wide of Putnins goal with the 'keeper struggling to get there.
The lively McAuley then had a second shot blocked, taking all the sting out of the effort and allowing Putnins to claim it easily. Basingstoke weren't having it all their own way, however, and had a penalty shout waved away after a challenge from Robert Rice. Bayes then stuck up a hand to prevent Effiong getting on the end of a dangerous cross from Ruddock.
The home fans were bellowing for another penalty on the hour mark when David Bryant went down under a challenge from Adams but the referee ruled he had played the ball. It was shortly after this that Town took the lead. A McAuley corner from the right was headed goalwards by Sills only to be cleared off the line but Delano Sam-Yorke was in the right place to tuck the ball home for his fourth goal in four games on 67 minutes.
Town boss Frank Gray then replaced Sam-Yorke and brought Matt Warner on to shore up the midfield, with Sills plowing a lone furrow in attack. But the ploy didn't work as the home side equalised 10 minutes later with their first goal of the season. Bryant met a corner from the left to head home and level the scores.
With six minutes remaining Rob Gradwell replaced the hardworking Sills as Gray looked to improve his attacking options. Three minutes later Town broke forward down the right and the ball was played to Daly but the tired midfielder failed to get any power in his shot and the chance was wasted.
The result moved Town back into fourth and the play-off places having played a game more than most of the others sides in the Conference South, while Boreham moved up to 18th.
