Weston-super-Mare 1 Basingstoke Town 0
Bank Holiday Monday saw Town make the long trip to the seaside to play Weston-super-Mare. Manager Frank Gray made two changes to the side that beat Farnborough on Saturday, with Matt Finlay returning to replace Sean Hankin and Nathan Smart coming in for the absent Stuart Lake. This was a much improved home side to those of recent seasons that have been reprieved having finished in the bottom three. The home side came out of the blocks and the inevitable happened on 14 minutes. Nathan Smart fouled just outside the area after Rob Rice had failed to pick up his man. Jay Gasson missed the cross from the resulting free kick and Jamie Price smashed the ball home. Weston had come close to scoring a minute earlier and although Town improved, the home side played the better football of a half that saw neither keeper with much to do.
In the second half Town came more into the game eventually introducing Jahson Downes and Greg Draper to join David Pratt in search of an equalizer. It was Draper who had the best chance to salvage a point and should have done better but his shot was tame when well placed. Neither side created much in front of goal but it was the home side who scored the solitary goal and took the three points.
Starting line-up - Tardif, Rice, Finlay, Adams, Gasson, Smart, Pattison, Laidler, Pratt, Williamson, Warner. Subs: Draper, Hankin, Downes, Ogunbote, Frewen, Draper.
