Frozen pitch calls off Dragon's weekend fixture

Basingstoke Town’s Saturday fixture at home against Truro was called off due to a frozen pitch.

Despite ground staff laying frost covers six days in advance, sub-zero temperatures throughout the week led to FA officials cancelling the fixture on Friday.

Town were not the only squad affected, with no Blue Square Bet Conference South fixtures played over the weekend.

The unexpected break will be a blessing in disguise for manager Frank Gray who would have been without injured striker Tim Sills and Matt Warner.

Truro will instead face the Dragons on Wednesday, before Town face Havant and Waterlooville away on Saturday.

Julie_Partridge_SC_ChairmanElsewhere the Basingstoke Town Supporters Club, which has struggled to gain new members, has elected a new committee this week in a bid to revamp the ailing organisation.

Julie Partridge was elected as the chairwoman, and Brian Parsons filled the post of deputy chairman, backed up by 10 committee members.

The club said a constitution for the group would be drawn up at their first meeting.
