On-loan Aldershot Town striker Bradley Bubb had a strong debut for the Dragons, scoring on his debut against Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.
For most of the game, Town were dominant, starting with Bubb in for the injured Sam-Yorke and Wes Daly returning from suspension in place of Jidi Ogunbote.
Town went close to opening the scoring in the fifth minute. Eastbourne failed to deal with a corner, and a weak effort from Stuart Lake came back to Matt Warner and his attempted cross into the box almost sneaked in.
Tim Sills fired over the bar after home shot-stopper Clark Masters failed to punch clear. The east Sussex side were under pressure from the outset and 12 minutes in a good ball from Daly found Bubb on the right. He worked himself some space, but dragged and scuffed his shot which was comfortable for Masters to save.
Eastbourne left-back Sam Cole got in an important challenge, preventing Warner a clear sight on goal. After 22 minutes of one way traffic, the home side could do nothing to prevent the inevitable as the Dragons took a deserved lead.
Sills won a free kick just inside the Eastbourne half and Daly found Bubb with a fine ball and the home defence, rooted to the spot, watched Bubb beat his marker and coolly chip Masters to open the scoring.
A minute later, it could have been double trouble for the home side as Sean McAuley tested Masters with a fierce shot and, as Borough failed to clear, Nathan Smart fizzed a shot wide.
The first opportunity for the home side came when Cole crossed from the left and Ashley Bayes was alert to take the ball from the head of striker Ben Watson.
The half ended with Daly flashing in a shot from the edge of the area and Warner diving and unable to get on the end of it.
Town being comfortably the better side in the opening period, the hosts made a good start to the second half, but despite enjoying a good 29min period, they only carved out one opportunity and then the Dragons resumed normal service.
Two minutes into the second half, Ben Watson ran on to a long ball and Jay Gasson made a well judged tackle to deny the striker. At the other end, Masters flapped at a Daly free kick, but Sills was unable to capitalise on the mistake.
Eastbourne left-back Cole was by far their most effective player, and on 65 minutes he almost got his side back in the game with a freak equaliser. His run down the left was unchallenged and his cross into the box crashed into the far post with Bayes looking on in horror. This spurred the Town captain and his team and they upped the tempo with Bubb scuffing a shot wide at the other end.
McAuley struck the Eastbourne crossbar, but two minutes later, on 73, it was game over for the home side. It was down to a howler from Masters, who totally misjudged a Daly free kick, and Sills acrobatically got in an overhead kick into the empty Borough net.
Town are next in action away against Sutton Wood on Saturday in the FA Trophy.
