The bizarre workings of this season’s fixtures saw Town along with three other teams sit out Saturday, leaving them a week to reflect on the fourth home defeat in a row before runaway leaders Newport County arrived in town.
Fans had been working all day on the pitch under the guidance of the groundsman, following the appalling weather over the weekend and were rewarded for their efforts when the match referee arrived late afternoon and declared that the match would go ahead. But the hard work could not reverse Town’s poor run at home with Anthony Rivere’s strike 16 minutes from time sending the Spitfires home with all three points.
