Hants claim first county championship win of season

Hampshire claimed their first LV Championship win of the season at Durham to keep their faint hopes of survival alive.

Hampshire declared their first innings on 275-7 in a rain-affected game.  Chasing a victory to keep their title hopes alive, Durham agreed to forfeit an innings to ensure a positive result but wickets fell quickly with Dmitri Mascarenhas taking 6-62, including 3-11 in his first eight overs.  Kabir Ali chipped in with 3-69.

Phil Mustard (56) and Callum Thorp (43) raised hopes when they put on 64 for the seventh wicket but it wasn't enough and Durham fell 50 runs short of their target.

One player Hampshire will be without next season is England opener Michael Lumb, who has signed a three-year deal with Nottinghamshire.  The 31-year-old has a first-class average of 34.5, and will play no further part in the current season through injury.  World Twenty20 winner Lumb has been with Hampshire for the past five years.
