Superb Heyliger century seals tense one-wicket win

Dillon Heyliger hit a superb 118 from 83 balls as Basingstoke and North Hants sneaked a one wicket victory over High Wycombe 2nds at May's Bounty on Saturday.

The last gasp victory kept Basingstoke's hopes of securing the Thames Valley League title alive for another week.  High Wycombe won the toss elected to bat, and it looked like a bad decision when opener Russell Curzon-Thompson was caught by Andrew Fulton off the bowling of Martyn James for a duck.

James bowled Alex Jewell (15) shortly after but opener John Stevens hit 71 and Kyle Buckthorp 54 to steady the ship for the visitors before Buckthorp was bowled by Dean Nurse.

Sohail Janed then feel cheaply lbw to James and once Stevens was run out by Nurse, their resistance collapsed and spinner Jack Parsons ran through the tail to finish with figures of 4-23 from 5.5 overs as High Wycombe posted a total of 192.

Basingstoke's response was immediately in trouble as Kyle Buckthorp dismissed captain Russell Droy, Adam Rouse and Daniel Coombs for a combined eight runs.  Heyliger then came to the crease and bludgeoned 11 fours, and four sixes, as he took the attack to the visitors.

But wickets were falling all around him and only some determined lower order support from James (17) and Mathew Thankachan (7) saw the home side to their target with one wicket left.
