Tadley Calleva boss Danny Dolan said he welcomed the weekend’s cancelled away fixture against Andover New Street following a torrid performance against Fleet Spurs in midweek.
The Syndenhams Wessex Division One outfit lost 1-0 away from home.
Speaking to the Observer, Dolan said it was the worst match of football he had seen in 20 years.
“It was dreadful,” he said. “It was a poor game of football from start to finish, and a sloppy goal from us. We would not of scored even if we had been out there until midnight.
“I am just disappointed because of all the hard work we put in against Cowes Sports on Saturday before, we had a great opportunity to get three points, but instead we played poorly against a very poor side.”
At the end of the 90 minutes Dolan faced a difficult squad selection following injuries to Danny Vickers, Shane Dowling, and Michael Abbot.
But looking ahead to Wednesday’s fixture against Amesbury Town, after the Observer went to press, Dolan said his squad of 16 was fighting fit and able to climb off the bottom of the table.
Calleva are currently trailing 17th-placed Hythe and Dibden by eight points.
“To have that break on Saturday did us a massive favour,” he said.
“Hopefully with Hythe and Dibden getting hammered at the weekend, and us getting three points midweek, we go into Saturday’s game only three points off the bottom.
“If we are up for it we can beat anyone on the day, and continue our reasonable form on Wednesday.”
