Dragons announce second pre-season friendly

Basingstoke Town have added another fixture to their list of pre-season friendlies.

The Camrose side side will play  Hungerford Town away on August 6.

The fixture follows announcement of the team’s first home pre-season match against championship side Crystal Palace on July 15.

Last season, Basingstoke played eight pre-season matches over July and early August, winning four, losing three and drawing one.

An indifferent Easter weekend for the Dragons saw them sign off their home campaign on Monday with three points at the Camrose, but on Good Friday ’Stoke had gone down 0-3 at play-off chasing Dover Athletic.

Town travelled to Dover on the back of wins which had produced six goals and none against. But two errors in the first half took the good out of Friday for the visitors.

Whitchurch United sunk by Downton

Whitchurch United were thrashed by a stronger Downton side at home on Saturday.

Playing at home, the sixth placed Wessex division one side lost 1-4 to the league leaders.

A hat trick from Downton striker Nicholas Turpin proved to be Whitchurch’s downfall. A fourth goal from Declan McGregor wrapped up the visitors’ scoring.

Substitute Chris Smalley managed, however, to get a goal back for the home side.

Whitchurch next face eighth placed Fleet Spurs in a derby clash on Saturday.

Tadley Calleva lose out to Portsmouth

Tadley Calleva were unable to stop a dominant United Services Portsmouth side, losing 1-3 away on Saturday.

Craig Effer’s men fall to 16th in the Wessex Football League division one, having lost 18 out of their 29 fixtures.

Calleva faced second place AFC Porchester away on Tuesday after the Observer went to press.

Whitchurch United outplayed at Warminster

Whitchurch United were outplayed by Warminster Town on Saturday.

Travelling away, the Wessex league division one side lost 0-2 to lower ranked Town. Goals from Shaun Sheppard and David Watkins ended any hopes of points for United.

Sixth-placed Whitchurch take on Hythe and Dibden at home on Saturday.
