Buffalo get into double figures in win over Chelmsford Warriors

1-2012-Wk5_Tom_Pope_BuffaloAn understrength Buffalo smashed their league rivals Chelmsford Warriors 10-3 away on Saturday.

The ENL South 2 side travelled to Chelmsford with 11 skaters and two ‘keepers, eight short of their normal squad.

Chelmsford, who sit a place above the Buffalo in the league, opened the scoring after two minutes through Ben Osborne.

But minutes later Matthew Lawday levelled the scoreline.

Basingstoke Buffalo kick off New Year with a bang

Second-string ice hockey squad Basingstoke Buffalo kicked off their New Year campaign with a 5-3 win over Swindon Wildcats 2.

Sunday’s home match saw veteran striker Greg Martyn bank a hat-trick. Team manager Andy Worship praised the squad’s hard-earned win.

“The game was won by some good defensive skills, and some great netminding by Aaron Taylor,” he said. “It was a cracking game to watch, a good advert for the sport at this level.

Hockey club fired up for new year

Basingstoke men’s hockey club will be looking for an explosive start to the new year when they take on Croydon and Old Whitgiftians away on January 14.

The Down Grange side lie fourth in the Hampshire and Surrey Regional 2 league, having won seven of 11 games this season.

They trail Bank of England by a point, and are six points adrift of league leaders Chicester 2. The squad will hope to repeat October’s success against league strugglers Croydon.


Buffalo boss confident of strong 2012

1-2012-Wk41_Greg_Martyn_2The manager of Basingstoke’s second string ice hockey squad, the Buffalo, said he hopes for a strong second half of the season.

Andrew Worship said he believes the squad will challenge the English National League South Division 2 front-runners. The team has had a mixed campaign, bagging five wins from 11 games this season.

They currently sit fourth in the 13-strong league standings, trailing Chelmsford Warriors by five points, but with four games in hand.

Buffalo battered by Cardiff Satans

Basingstoke Buffalo ice hockey squad suffered a devastating loss on Sunday at home against  Cardiff Satans.

The home side took an early lead within the first minute when Simon Beere netted, but the Satans struck back a few minutes later, equalling the scores at 1-1. Ross Beal gave the home side the lead again before the first break.

The visitors struck three unanswered goals in the second period to take command of the game and had a two-goal lead into the third period.
