Basingstoke all but secure BAL status for another season

Andy-Blow-PicATHLETICS: Basingstoke & Mid Hants AC finished second in a thrilling British Athletics League (BAL) meeting at Abingdon on Saturday, securing their Division Two future for another season.

Beaten into second place by Herne Hill Harriers, Basingstoke only have to turn up for the final league fixture at Derby in two weeks to avoid relegation.  Young sprinter Kieran Showler-Davis won the 200m in 21.34secs, while Andy Blow  did a hurdles double winning the 110m hurdles in 14.49secs and the 400m hurdles in 53.2secs.

Basingstoke won both hurdles B string races to complete a clean sweep, with Dean Showler-Davis taking the 110m hurdles in 15.07secs and Richard Fox the 400m hurdles in 54.76secs.

Multi-eventer Ben Hazell again provided a large chunk of the team's events scoring 48 points across four disciplines, while John Dickinson took victory in the B string pole vault and Chris Ladhams produced his third consecutive personal best in the 800m in BAL meets this year.
