Buffalo get into double figures in win over Chelmsford Warriors

1-2012-Wk5_Tom_Pope_BuffaloAn understrength Buffalo smashed their league rivals Chelmsford Warriors 10-3 away on Saturday.

The ENL South 2 side travelled to Chelmsford with 11 skaters and two ‘keepers, eight short of their normal squad.

Chelmsford, who sit a place above the Buffalo in the league, opened the scoring after two minutes through Ben Osborne.

But minutes later Matthew Lawday levelled the scoreline.

By the end of the first 20, the Buffalo were 4-1 up with goals from Tom Pope, Jason Woodgate, and Lawday banking his brace.

In the second session Lawday netted his hat-trick early after the restart followed by goals from Pope, and two from Scott Padwick ending the session 8-1.

In the final session the dominant Buffalo saw two more goals, the first from Lawday, who netted his fourth of the night, and veteran Greg Martyn rounded off the scoreline at 10-1.

In the dying minutes of the game the Warriors were able to grab two consolation goals through Osborne and Tom Forskett.

After the match, delighted team manager Andy Worship said: “It was a damn good performance by all the players.

“The scoreline took us by surprise to be honest bearing in mind where Chelmsford are in the table and the string of results they have had recently.

“We played extremely well as a whole unit of 11 skaters, that gave us the edge.”

On Saturday the Buffalo face Oxford City Stars seconds away.
