Showler-Davis_1_of_1Basingstoke sprint star Kieran Showler-Davis fluffed his lines during his big moment last year, but has vowed not to make the same mistake twice as he bids for under-23 European gold.

No gold for North Hampshire athletes

DelhiGames-177North Hampshire's trio of athletes representing England in the Commonwealth Games in Delhi fell short of medal glory.

Basingstoke and North Hants decathlete Ben Hazel finished fourth in the two-day event.

The 26-year-old managed to record 7,676pts, scoring three season bests and a personal best in the 10-discipline event.

Hook runner 19-year-old Charlie Purdue also finished fourth in the 10,000m event.

Tobin Delhi bound

Basingstoke 400m runner Rob Tobin will be travelling to India for the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.

Tobin will be representing England in the 19th Commonwealth Games, which takes place from Sunday to Thursday October 14.

The 26-year-old sprinter appeared at the European Championships last month in Barcelona coming home with silver in the 4 x 400m relay.

Talented athletes apply for grant

Week35_TA-1Athletes from across the county are being called to apply for the Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme.

Applications for Scheme are open from now until Friday October 15. The scheme gives athletes from across Hampshire support with training, equipment, travel and physiotherapy, as well as monetary grants.
