Talented athletes apply for grant

Week35_TA-1Athletes from across the county are being called to apply for the Hampshire Talented Athlete Scheme.

Applications for Scheme are open from now until Friday October 15. The scheme gives athletes from across Hampshire support with training, equipment, travel and physiotherapy, as well as monetary grants.

Tobin silver success

Rob_Tobin-2BASINGSTOKE’S Rob Tobin insisted Great Britain’s 4x400m relay team were bullied out of gold medal contention after being forced to settle for silver at the European Championships in Sunday August 1.

The 26-year-old, who helped Britain claim silver at the World Championships in Berlin last year, struggled to handle the shrugging match during the third leg at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona.

Tobin confident for Euro gold bid

2010_Week_30-9Basingstoke sprinter Rob Tobin has spent more time on the treatment table than the track this season - but he is adamant that won't be the case at the European Championships in Barcelona this week.

British duo undone at Wimbledon

Josh Goodall’s assault on the Wimbledon doubles competition came to an end on Friday with a straight sets loss to former finalists. The Basingstoke ace teamed up with fellow Brit Jamie Delgado faced Mahesh Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi, beaten finalists in 2003, but were comfortably beaten 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

Murray's mum hails tennis youngsters

Teenagers from a Basingstoke college were given a tennis masterclass by Judy Murray this week as reward for their efforts in a nationwide tournament.
