RFC game called of at Havant

BasingstokeRFCLogoThe weekends Arctic blast saw Down Grange covered in several inches of snow calling off Basingstoke RFC's home game against Havant on Saturday. 

Junior Paramore's men were not alone as all games in the National Three and South East League were called off.

The Hampshire derby was called off on Friday after the rock-solid pitch was deemed unsuitable for play.

Dragons trophy hopes dashed

DragonsDenisMurphyBasingstoke FC's first match in nearly three weeks ended with the Dragons eliminated from the FA Trophy by near neighbours Salisbury City following a 0-2 loss at home on Saturday.

Town were on the back foot from before the kick-off, having not played since their Trophy replay victory at Havant & Waterlooville.

Manager Frank Gray had to field a weakened side, starting without a first choice goalkeeper, two centre backs and three forwards because of injuries and suspensions.

Bison book semi-final place

BisonLogo-10Basingstoke Bison ice hockey squad booked their place in the semi-finals of the English Premier League Cup after beating both Sheffield Steeldogs and Telford Tigers at the weekend.

The Herd move to third place in the league after the weekend’s victories – their ninth win on the trot.

At home against Steeldogs on Saturday, Bison outclassed their opponents 8-1. Travelling to Shropshire the next day, the Herd continued their goal-scoring momentum, winning 3-6.

Football loses out to snow

Generic_Basingstoke_Town_FC_1_of_1The misery continues for the Dragons, with their match at Thurrock on November 30 and last Saturday’s home match against Staines becoming casualties of the early Arctic blast.

Having also lost the fixture at Dorchester due to snow,  the games are now piling up for Town, with Saturday and midweek games in prospect throughout January.

On Friday, the Camrose was under four inches of snow and,despite the rise in temperatures early on Saturday, the game was called off.

Junior Paramore's men where due to play Ampthill and home on Saturday.

The game at Down Grange was called off on Friday after the frozen pitch was considered unsuitable for play.

Only one game took place in the National Three London and South East League, with the Civil Service getting the better of Staines 22-19.
