Fond farewell for Fitchett

Andrew Fitchett kicked his final points before a return to New Zealand as Basingstoke beat Portsmouth 55-14.

On a sun soaked pitch the Champion backed ‘Stoke started off well but it was Portsmouth that were to draw first blood after six minutes, when missed tackles in the midfield allowed their centre to skip through and score a converted try to give them a 7-0 lead.

Dragons routed by high flying Stortford

Basingstoke were humbled 50-3 by in form Bishops Stortford on Saturday and surrendered fifth place in the London South league to their rampant hosts.

From the outset the home side were dominant in all areas of the game and had a chance to score within the first minute and ran in a number of impressive tries.

Town 0-43 Old Albanians

Basingstoke travelled to Old Albanians with high hopes of turning over one of the league’s big boys, but were sent packing with a 43-0 defeat.

The Dragons were not rewarded for their hard work and the scoreline did not reflect an afternoon of hard graft, which went totally unrewarded. The opening exchanges saw both sides make good ground into opposition territory and it was the visitors who could have broken the deadlock.

Basingstoke 37-22 Diss

Basingstoke were forced to come from behind to take the points in an entertaining 37-22 win at home to Diss. The Dragons found themselves trailing 17-3 with a minute left in the first half before scoring on half time and running in four second half tries. It was not until the 64th minute that the home side found themselves in front before finishing the game off and getting a bonus point in the process.

On a bitterly cold afternoon 'Stoke picked up another home league win against lower opposition but once again failed to gain a four try bonus point. Whilst it was an improvement on previous performances Stoke once again failed to put their opponents to the sword and punish them.
